Tai Chi
Tuesdays 12.00-1.00pm
Tai Chi is a low impact, slow motion martial art that is often described as “meditation in motion.” There is increasing evidence that it can play a major part in treating or preventing many health problems.
Movements are usually circular and not forced, the joints are not fully extended or bent and connective tissues are not stretched.
The practice is considered an “internal” martial art as it is focused on developing qi (chee) and allowing it to flow smoothly through the body.
Benefits -
relieving stress on the body and mind
increased balance
improves strength and flexibility
improves cardiovascular fitness
lowers blood pressure
Tai Chi brings people to a slow phase of nature to recharge minds and bodies. It creates and promotes balance, which can be a huge relief from the fast and unnatural way of modern life.
The principles of Tai Chi
Movement control
Slow, smooth movements help integrate mind and body facilitate serenity - flowing like water in a river. Every movement generates a soft inner power and gentle resistance, as if you are moving in water.
Body structure
Maintaining an upright posture strengthens muscles which support the spine, allows qi to flow better, provides more space for internal organs and makes you feel stronger and more positive. Weight placement should be balanced which promotes harmony.
Internal components
Relaxed joints allow you to consciously and gently stretch from within. Mental quietness allows you to be mindful of the present and the self.
